Introduction
On March 23, AWS announced an expansion of its online exams. All AWS certification exams will now be offered with online proctoring via Pearson VUE. However, AWS warns that due to high demand the waiting time may be extended.
AWS is also automatically extending certification expiration dates in many cases and extending version expiration dates for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate and AWS Certified Big Data - Specialty.
With the closure of the test centers, many wondered when and how they could take the exams, since previously only the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner could be taken remotely. The online exams are offered at regular intervals and supervised through your webcam to ensure that everything is in accordance with the guidelines.
It is worth remembering that when taking a certification online it will not be possible to add 30 extra minutes to the exam time; a minimum understanding of English is assumed for taking it due to the communication with the examiner.
Requirements
A computer with a webcam, microphone, and speakers or headphones; A quiet and private location, with no one else in the room (If someone enters the location the exam will be voided); A reliable internet connection.
Statement
Below is the AWS statement on the subject:

We are extending the retirement dates for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate (SAA-C01) and the AWS Certified Big Data - Specialty (BDS-C00) until July 1, 2020. Our page Coming Soon has additional information about these exams.
We automatically extend the certification expiration dates if you need more time to recertify. The updated expiration dates are now available in your AWS Certification account. Certification extensions also increase the availability of your AWS Certification benefits.
We automatically extend the voucher expiration dates if you need more time to use them. The updated expiration dates of vouchers purchased on Xvoucher are now available in your Xvoucher account. Our vouchers page has the information on how to access your account or contact Xvoucher.
Now, you can take all AWS Certification exams with online proctoring. Due to the high expected demand, the waiting time for online proctored scheduling and customer support responses may be longer than usual. Pearson VUE customer support responses will be reviewed in three to five business days. Learn more.
For assistance with scheduled or canceled exams, contact the respective test delivery provider: PSI or Pearson VUE. Please note that response times may be longer than usual.
If you have additional questions, contact us.”
Summary
With all the problems generated by the COVID-19 Pandemic, companies found themselves forced to adapt and expand their services to meet this online demand. Market leaders such as Amazon Web Services saw the opportunity to ensure their customers a way to continue the path of specialization directly from their homes, reducing the impact on the qualification of their professionals.
