From Amazon Q to Amazon Quick: what changed in AWS’s agentic workspace?

Anyone who was following Amazon Q may have been surprised to see the new name appearing in AWS materials. It’s not just a rebrand, it’s the consolidation of several separate tools into a single agentic AI platform, with a broader purpose than the original product.

What was Amazon Q?

Before Quick, AWS had two separate products in this space: Amazon Q Business, an AI assistant focused on answering questions and automating tasks using corporate data, and Amazon QuickSight, the business intelligence tool for dashboards and data analysis. They worked independently, without direct integration between them.

What changed with Amazon Quick?

Amazon Quick emerged from the evolution and unification of these tools into a single experience: an agentic AI workspace that combines an intelligent assistant, business intelligence, process automation, and application building in one place. Instead of switching between an assistant for questions and a separate tool for dashboards, the company now has a single platform that does both, in addition to executing tasks autonomously.

Amazon Q Business no longer accepts new customers, with AWS directing adoption toward Amazon Quick as the natural evolution path for those who already used the previous tools or are evaluating adopting one now.

Why does this unification make sense?

Before, a company that wanted an AI assistant to answer questions about internal data and also wanted business intelligence dashboards had to set up and maintain two separate tools, often without direct integration between them. With Amazon Quick, that friction disappears: the same platform answers questions in natural language, generates dashboards, automates workflows, and builds applications, all with the same level of context about the company’s data and systems.

What does Amazon Quick do beyond what Amazon Q did?

Unlike an assistant that only answers questions, Amazon Quick acts autonomously: it creates dashboards, executes multi-step workflows, updates systems such as CRM and spreadsheets, and builds complete deliverables from a single command in natural language, connecting to tools the company already uses, such as Slack, Outlook, Salesforce, and Jira.

What do companies that already used Amazon Q need to know?

If your company already uses Amazon Q Business, AWS offers a migration path that lets you bring existing data and indexes into Quick without interrupting the current operation. If you already use QuickSight, the transition is seamless: QuickSight is now part of Quick as the BI module, and all existing APIs and integrations continue working without changes. In both cases, the change expands what the company can do without having to start from scratch.

If your company is evaluating adopting an agentic AI for the first time, Amazon Quick is already the most complete option within the AWS ecosystem, without the need to choose between different products for each need.
